Encouraging as the overall reduction of figures are, falls from height still remain the largest contributor to the total number of work place fatalities in the UK.

Over 26% of the 144 deaths, recorded in 2015/2016, resulted from a fall from height with 18 of the fatal falls occurring in the construction sector, seven in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors and four in manufacturing.

The figures released this November by the HSE show overall fatalities from falls from height were down from 42 in 2014/2015 to 37 in 2015/2016 and the total of non-fatal injuries from 6,165 to 5,956 respectively.

Increasingly the sales, design and production departments at Planet are working closely with our customer’s health and safety teams, looking at ways to help the reduction of injuries to continue.

Not only does the access equipment we manufacture aid in reducing the risks when working at height but a key factor is that they also increase productivity. An aspect often overlooked at the expense of cost.
